Halloween

We had a fun time celebrating Halloween this year!
The festivities started on Monday and Tuesday when the kids were invited to wear their costumes to story time at the library! Conner even got to go trick or treating to the different desks there!

On Thursday we went to downtown New Braunfels for a city trick or treat. We got there towards the end and it wasn't very good. Most of the businesses giving out candy had already run out. So we headed up to NB High School. Now that was A BLAST!!! All the school's clubs had a booth with some kind of game or activity ending in a treat for the kids. Conner loved it - and he didn't even understand a lot of the games! He was so adorable, he would clap for himself at the end of each game. His ABSOLUTE FAVORITE game was a duck pond. They had a large bowl with ducks in it and each child got to pick up one duck. The duck had a number on the bottom (1, 2 or 3) and that was how many pieces of candy the child got. Conner loved it! We had to go back to it a second time right before we left. NBHS did a fabulous job, we will definitely go back again next year!

On Halloween day we had a church party from 4-6 where we ate dinner, the kids played a few Halloween games and went trick or treating to the classroom doors. This year Conner was the cutest cow you've ever seen! Instead of saying "Trick or Treat!" he would say "Mooo." After the party was over we went to the Powell's neighborhood so that Conner could trick or treat with his cousins. Daddy pulled him around in the wagon, and most of the people passing out candy were sitting in their driveway, which made it convenient because we didn't have to get Conner in and out of the wagon at each house! Next we went to the Legg's house (Ammon's coworker) for a party! We had a fun time socializing and eating chili! We didn't want to go home, but soon Conner's bedtime rolled around, and passed us by, so we had to leave.

P.S. I'm 36 weeks pregnant in this picture!

The Goofy Movie Sleepover Party

I really wanted to do a movie party before the new baby comes! I choose The Goofy Movie! We played Go Fish, an alphabet game (to go with "Hi Dad Soup") ate (mini) pizzas, Swedish fish and, of course, crackers with spray cheese! It was a fun night!

Acorn Bread

In August Ammon was called as the Young Men's President in our ward. He has spent a lot of time trying to make it fun for the boys. Right now they are working on Wilderness Survival. They have had / plan to have 5-6 activities to teach different things about wilderness survival, and then they will go on a wilderness survival campout. They're learning things like shelter building, what to eat, how to start fires using only things found in nature, etc. This week's activity is about eating off of the land. Ammon has done some research into the most common nut found: Acorns. He has spent 3 nights this week preparing for the activity (plus, I spent today working on it for him while he was at work)! Acorns take A LOT of work before they can be eaten. In the end, we made a flatbread and a "corn bread" out of the acorn flour. The activity tonight went well! And of course, Ammon had a lot of fun learning how to do it!

We Are the Future

A few days ago, Ammon asked me if we are doing anything on Wednesday (the 21st) to celebrate? I thought hard for a minute and finally had to admit that I didn't know why the 21st was a special day. Ammon "reminded" me that it is Back to the Future day! In the movie Back to the Future, Marty McFly travels into the future to October 21, 2015! Ammon said that when he asked Kendall the exact same question, Kendall said "We're going to watch the movie of course!" Evidently Kendall knew exactly what made the 21st so important.

This clued me in that Back to the Future day was something special for Ammon, so I put on my party planning hat and got to work. Although I've seen the movies before, I'm not super knowledgeable about the movies. So I accidentally planned the party around the first movie, when it was in the second movie they traveled to the future.

Welcome to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance

Amazon Prime had all the Back to the Future movies for free streaming that day, so we got to watch the movie too!

Ammon really appreciated everything I did to make it a fun evening. And we did have a really fun night!
