Allison's Birthday

We had an extended celebration of my birthday this year! Ammon is currently working 3rd shift (graveyard) as a manager on the factory floor in Mapleton. This means two things: 1) He now sleeps during the day, and 2) It's hard for your body to adjust to sleeping during they day, and because it's hard to adjust, I believe it requires more sleep than normal. My birthday was on a Tuesday this year, and on Saturday Ammon decided he had more time to make my cake that day (over the weekend) then he would on Tuesday, so we ended up inviting all of the local family over for birthday cake on Sunday night. I also opened presents from Ammon that night! Throughout the week as presents from out of town family came in the mail, I opened those too. Then the Sunday after my birthday we got together with our local family and opened more presents! It was a fun week of celebrating!

My birthday cake was a lemon poppy seed cake with almond frosting. I loved it!

On my actual birthday, Ammon took me out to Red Robin for dinner. We hadn't been there for a long time, and I had forgotten how much I LOVE their french fries and campfire sauce! YUMMMMMM!!!

Olympic Movie Party!

Ammon and I planned another movie sleepover party for the night of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympics - so of course it had to be OLYMPIC themed!!!

We started off by making Gold Medals. Ammon and I had made some salt dough earlier and shaped them into big round circles. Each kid got their own to decorate using things like toothpicks, forks - you know, stuff that they could drag in the dough to create a design. Then we stuck them in the oven and continued the party! We had some tape on the ground that represented different sports in the Winter Olympics. Left to right: Ice Skates; Snow Board; Sled; Skis.

We learned about 14 different winter Olympic sports and which type of transportation (ice skates, snow board, sled or skis) each sport used. The only tricky one was curling - it doesn't use any of them! This is a picture of Sadie and Rigdon bobsledding :)

We took a break about half way through the sports to make edible Olympic Rings. We didn't eat them right away, we saved them for the movie. (The purple rings are kind of hard to see in the pictures because our table is a dark color...)

Then we played Olympic Bingo!

That night we watched Cool Runnings and ate our Olympic Rings (colorful licorice), M&M's (Bingo markers) and Vanilla Oreo's (Gold Medals).

When the salt dough medals were done cooking, Ammon took them outside and spray painted them with metallic gold paint. In the morning, we put a ribbon through the hole (before cooking the dough we put a hole in the top using a straw) and each kid got their own Gold Medal!

It was a fun party!

Decorations

I helped throw a baby shower for my sister-in-law and I was in charge of the decorations. I thought they turned out really cute!
